Half-Day Buggy Safari around the Dunes

4 hoursErg Chebbi · KhamliaMediumPrivate

A real desert safari in a buggy: the whole of Erg Chebbi, the Gnawa village of Khamlia, the black desert and the oasis.

Four hours give you time for a complete loop around the sea of dunes. We start along the western edge of Erg Chebbi, with its palm groves and small villages of earth houses, and enter the dunes several times for climbs and descents, always following your guide.

In Khamlia we stop to listen to Gnawa music and drink tea, then cross the black desert, where nomad families graze their animals, and come back on the eastern side through wide, empty valleys of sand. It is a long but comfortable ride, with time for photos and rest.

Questions

Do I need a driving licence for the buggy?

We ask the driver to have a car driving licence. The passenger does not need anything, just a sense of adventure.

Is the buggy good for families?

Yes. With seat belts and a roll cage it is the safest way to share the dunes with older children sitting next to a parent.

Is it difficult to drive on the dunes?

Not with a guide. He chooses the lines and shows you how to climb and descend. You simply follow his tracks at your own pace.
