A Morning with a Nomad Family

4 hoursHamadaEasyPrivate

Share daily life with a nomad family in the black desert: bake bread in the sand, help with the animals and drink tea in their tent.

Some families around Merzouga still live as their grandparents did, moving with their goats and camels in search of pasture and water. This experience is not a show: we visit a family we know well, who welcome a small number of guests and are happy to share their day with you.

You help the women knead the dough for the bread, which is baked under the hot sand and ashes, learn how they weave the tent from goat hair, go with the children to bring the animals to the well and finish with lunch and tea on the carpets of the tent. Your guide translates and explains the customs of desert life. Part of the price goes directly to the family.

Questions

Are these activities good for children?

Yes, all of them. Sandboarding and stargazing are favourites of families, and children love sharing a morning with nomad kids.

When is the best time for the stars?

On the nights around the new moon, when the sky is darkest. With a full moon the dunes shine silver, which is also beautiful, but you see fewer stars.

Can I combine several activities?

Of course. A classic day is a nomad visit in the morning, sandboarding in the afternoon, a camel ride at sunset and stargazing after dinner at the camp.
