Sandboarding in Erg Chebbi

2 hoursErg ChebbiEasyPrivate

Climb the dunes and slide down on a board: two hours of laughter on the soft sand of Erg Chebbi, for children and adults.

Sandboarding is the simplest fun of the desert. Your guide brings the boards and the wax and chooses a dune with a long, smooth slope. You can stand like on a snowboard, sit or lie on the board: on the sand the falls are soft and everyone ends up laughing.

The hardest part is walking back up the dune, so we take our time, with breaks for water and tea at the top. It is a great activity for families and for the late afternoon, before a sunset camel ride or the arrival at the camp. We can also bring the boards to the camp for the next morning.

Questions

Are these activities good for children?

Yes, all of them. Sandboarding and stargazing are favourites of families, and children love sharing a morning with nomad kids.

When is the best time for the stars?

On the nights around the new moon, when the sky is darkest. With a full moon the dunes shine silver, which is also beautiful, but you see fewer stars.

Can I combine several activities?

Of course. A classic day is a nomad visit in the morning, sandboarding in the afternoon, a camel ride at sunset and stargazing after dinner at the camp.
