Camel Trek & Night in Our Luxury Desert Camp

1 nightErg ChebbiEasyPrivate

The classic Sahara night: a camel caravan at sunset, dinner and Berber drums by the fire, a tent with a real bed and private bathroom, and sunrise over the dunes.

In the late afternoon we meet at the edge of Erg Chebbi. You leave your big luggage with us, take only a small bag for the night and set off on camelback with your cameleer. The caravan crosses the dunes for about an hour and a half, stopping on a crest for the sunset, and reaches our camp as the sky darkens.

The camp is hidden in a hollow of sand, far from the road and the lights. Each tent has a real bed with warm blankets, a private bathroom and electricity. Dinner is cooked in the camp: harira soup, salads, a slow-cooked tajine and fruit. Afterwards our team plays the drums around the fire and you can lie on the sand to watch the Milky Way. At dawn you climb the dune behind the camp for the sunrise, have breakfast and ride back to Merzouga.

Questions

Is the camel ride comfortable?

Yes. Our dromedaries are calm and used to visitors, the saddles are padded and have a handle, and the cameleer walks beside you. Hold on tight when the camel stands up and sits down: that is the only tricky moment.

Can children ride a camel?

Yes, from about four years old, sitting alone or with a parent depending on their age. For very young children we suggest the one-hour ride.

What should I wear?

Long, comfortable trousers, closed shoes or sandals, sunglasses and a warm layer for the evening. We give you a Berber scarf to protect your head from the sun and the sand.

Sunset or sunrise?

Both are beautiful. Sunset is warmer and more lively; sunrise is quieter and cooler, ideal in summer. If you sleep in our camp you get both.
