1-Hour Camel Ride in the Merzouga Dunes
A short and gentle first contact with the Sahara: one hour on a calm dromedary through the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, led by a cameleer from Merzouga.
If you have little time in Merzouga, or you are travelling with children, this one-hour ride is the perfect way to feel the dunes. We meet you at your hotel or at the edge of Erg Chebbi, help you onto the camel and wrap your head in a Berber scarf against the sun and the wind.
Your cameleer walks beside the caravan the whole time, choosing an easy line between the dunes. Halfway, we stop on a crest so you can walk barefoot in the sand and take photos of the endless orange waves. You can choose the morning, the afternoon or the hour before sunset.

Good to know
Long trousers are more comfortable on a camel. Sunset rides leave about 90 minutes before sunset, sunrise rides about an hour before dawn: we confirm the exact time when you book.
No payment is needed to book: you pay on arrival in cash (dirhams or euros). Free changes if the weather is not good.
Questions
Is the camel ride comfortable?
Yes. Our dromedaries are calm and used to visitors, the saddles are padded and have a handle, and the cameleer walks beside you. Hold on tight when the camel stands up and sits down: that is the only tricky moment.
Can children ride a camel?
Yes, from about four years old, sitting alone or with a parent depending on their age. For very young children we suggest the one-hour ride.
What should I wear?
Long, comfortable trousers, closed shoes or sandals, sunglasses and a warm layer for the evening. We give you a Berber scarf to protect your head from the sun and the sand.
Sunset or sunrise?
Both are beautiful. Sunset is warmer and more lively; sunrise is quieter and cooler, ideal in summer. If you sleep in our camp you get both.
