2-Hour Quad Tour in the Merzouga Dunes

2 hoursErg Chebbi · HamadaMediumPrivate

Two hours to go further: big dunes, the black stone desert and a stop for tea with a nomad family.

With two hours you have time to feel confident on the quad and see much more of the desert. The ride starts in the soft dunes behind Merzouga, where your guide shows you how to climb and come down safely, and then heads out to the hamada, the flat plain of black stones where you can ride faster in a straight line.

Halfway, we stop at the tent of a nomad family who live with their animals at the edge of the dunes. They offer mint tea and bread, and you can see how life works without walls or electricity. On the way back we climb a higher crest for the panorama over Erg Chebbi before returning to the village.

Questions

Do I need experience to ride a quad?

No. The quads are automatic and you get a briefing and a short practice on flat sand before entering the dunes.

Can children ride?

Drivers are usually 16 or older. Younger children can ride as passengers with an adult on a duo quad or in a buggy. We confirm the details when you book.

What should I wear?

Closed shoes, long trousers and sunglasses. We give you a helmet, goggles and a Berber scarf against the sand. In winter bring a warm layer for sunset.

What is the best time of day?

Morning and late afternoon, when the sand is cooler and the light is beautiful. In summer we ride only at sunrise and sunset.
